On August 22nd and 23rd, 2023, key stakeholders in Tanzanias multiparty democracy convened in Dar es Salaam for a two-day national stakeholders conference. The purpose was to deliberate on the state of the countrys democracy in anticipation of the civic and general elections scheduled for 2024 and 2025, respectively.
The two-day conference, held under the auspices of the Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TCD), was honored by the presence of Zanzibar President, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, as the Guest of Honor. The event successfully brought together representatives from political parties, the government, civil society organizations, and development partners.
Notably, all members of the organizations, including the opposition party CHADEMA, participated in the conference, demonstrating a positive shift as CHADEMA had previously refrained from engaging with think tank efforts.
